My name is Krisztian (on radio I just sign Chris for simplicity) and I live in Budapest, Hungary.
I got my first licence in 1982 as HG5XA, then passed the CW exam and upgraded to HA5XA in 1983. There were a few inactive years around the turn of the century when I was busy with other aspects of life: including university, business, founding a family, work, moving my residence, etc. I decided to return to the hobby, but by the time I submitted my application, a new ministerial decree came out making it impossible to get my original callsign back. Although the licencing office was very understanding to give me a callsign similar to the original (HA5XXA), I hated this callsign and tried to do everything I could to get my own callsign back.
I WAS SUCCESSFUL: ON 1 JUNE 2006 MY CALLSIGN CHANGED BACK TO HG5XA!
Now I have two Hungarian callsigns: HG5XA as my normal callsign and HA5X for contests.

My major interests in amateur radio are DX-ing, both HF and VHF. I am not particularly interested in award chasing, but I have DXCC Mixed & CW. Most probably I also have enough cards for some single bands and phone, but I have never had the mood to organize my QSLs. I enjoy expeditioning and portable operation, although I have never been to any really rare DXCC entity.
My station is antenna-restricted, I use fishing rods on a very small balcony on all bands as antennas, or antenna poles. The shack is also small: three shelves on my desk in the living room corner.
