4m BROADCASTS STOP IN HUNGARY
1 February 2007.

Hungary has switched off all radio broadcasting stations on the 66-73 MHz band. I hope it really creates an opportunity to get an amateur radio allocation on the 4m band. I already have a HB9CV for the band, but no transverter or radio... Khmmmm, a nice challenge.

HA50MHZ LICENCE RENEWED
1 February 2007.

Today I got a new licence for the HA50MHZ callsign. It is valid until 31 December 2007. Let's hope more QSOs this year.

FIRST ANTENNA IMPRESSIONS
10 January 2007.

The satellite dish works perfect :-) I now pay less, get better quality and more channels compared to the cable TV I ued to have. The Diamond V2000 performs great on 2m FM, signals are far better than ever before. There is some problem with the yagi though... I suspect some problem at the connection, but it is not as easy to repair something on the pole during winter as it was when I only had to collapse the fishing rod... Well, this is a negative effect of having proper antenna masts, aint't it? ;-)

A PERMANENT ANTENNA MAST NOW UP
3 January 2007.

Finally! My fishing-rod-only period is over. With the help of HA7RY, HA5TMK and HA5GO, now I have a nice steel pole :-) There are three antennas up now: a Diamond V2000 50/144/432 MHz vertical, a 9 element short yagi for 2m on a small tv-rotator, and a small satellite dish for television. The last one was the excuse for the construction :) I now want my neighbours get used to the sight, and if nobody is knocking on my door with an axe, I will replace the antennas with better and bigger ones...

ONE BIG PUNCH INSTALLED
20 AUG 2006.

One of my Yaesu MH-31 microphones was turned into an SSB DX powerhouse... Laci (HA5TMK) installed a W4RT Electronics One Big Punch speech compressor. The first tests are a big wooooowwwwww. All stations interviewed gave me 1-3 S units better reports with the compressor on.

With this mod, I hope to make both my FT817 and 897 SSB signals better. The only problem is that on 40m, there seems to be some RF feedback which locks up the compressor above 30 Watts of RF power... I will have to check all cable shieldings. But the compressor is really great. Why Yaesu did not fit one in the radio themselves is another big mistery.
